Music Education That Can Change Your Child's Life.
The Childbloom Guitar program is a comprehensive musical education program for children between the ages of 5 and 12. It was developed in 1980 by Kevin Taylor, of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The Childbloom Guitar Method is currently being used by educators throughout the nation and is the largest program of its kind in the United States. If its children's guitar lessons you are looking for, Childbloom's guitar lessons for kids are the best!
A Successful Approach To Children's Guitar Lessons - A Classic Education.
Students are able to engage with music quickly and successfully. "We want to give the kids a learning victory in the first lesson, " says Taylor. "They don't want to wait to play music. Can you blame them?" The skills that are taught are done so in a step-by-step manner. The Childbloom guitar students develop awesome skill as the age-appropriate music becomes more complex.
Solo/Ensemble Skills Right From The Start
Your child can become a well-rounded musician. The curriculum used in the Childbloom Program is comprised of music arranged in parts; the student not only learns solo playing skills, but ensemble skills as well. The small Childbloom class can accommodate the young child’s attention span and the adolescent’s expanding social horizon. A leader in child development characterized the Childbloom class as "providing individual attention in a low-pressure environment."
Parents Are Part Of The Process
Taking a lesson from the insights of S. Suzuki, parents are encouraged to attend the lesson with their child. "We have found," says Taylor, "that the more parents are involved in this process, the faster the student learns, the more the student learns, and the more persistent the student will be."
Voluntary Performances
Several times a year your child’s instructor may hold student performances or recitals. All performances are voluntary. An important element of the Childbloom philosophy is that force is an unnecessary ingredient for artistic endeavor. The Swiss child development scholar, Jean Piaget, tells us that children learn well in the context of play. The English educator, A.S. Niell, has shown that children learn well when given freedom. These observations constantly challenge the Childbloom instructor to communicate joy and fascination to the student and show that self-discipline arises more easily from freely chosen goals.
A Guitar Teacher You Can Trust
Before certification, all Childbloom Instructors undergo a background check. This is not the case with most other private music teachers, including Suzuki trained teachers. Childbloom instructors are trained systematically and thoroughly. Through in-class experience, carefully designed teaching materials, developmental profiles of our students, practice in group dynamics, and an activity repertoire, our instructors are uniquely prepared to meet your child's needs. No other music program in the nation provides teacher training in child-development theory. This training helps the Instructor understand the capabilities of your child.
Knowledge Of The Hand
Each instructor is also trained in the physiology of the hand. This ensures each teacher will recognize a natural use of hand, and may prevent problems associated with incorrect playing positions. And, wow! Will your child be able to play!
A High-Skilled Guitar Technique
Students are taught to use both left and right hands in playing, as it is a style that does not limit their ability to improve. All our instructors are well-schooled in this classic technique and are periodically reviewed to ensure that all students are exposed to a consistently high level instruction. The Best Method Is Not The Most Expensive
The price of Childbloom instruction varies from place to place but is competitive with other music teachers in your area. When you enroll, you'll receive an initial learning packet that will last your child from two months to a year. This way, the ordinarily high cost of learning materials is substantially reduced. We urge you to compare prices and service with anyone in your area. We think you'll find that Childbloom is best-suited to bring out the best in your child.
Q.: What kind of guitar should I get for my child?
A.: To avoid injury and to develop the highest skill technique it is important to get a child-sized guitar. We recommend a small nylon-string guitar for the beginner's maximum success. Parents shouldn't scrimp on an instrument. Get the best you can afford. It does make a difference in your child's musical development. Expect to pay $100-$600 for an instrument. There are very good ones for less than $300 in most markets. The better guitar you buy, the more resale value it will retain as your child moves to larger sizes. The critical dimension is length, not width of the guitar. Here is a suggested size according to the general age of a child. The lengths given are string lengths: Age 4 - 6: under 18" • Age 6 - 8: under 21" • Age 8 - 10: under 23" • Age 10 - 12: under 25". Some useable, mass-produced brands are Strunal, Montana, Jasmine, and Cordoba. Luthier-made instruments are wonderful and usually start at about $600.
